What's the difference between an Article and a Press Release?

Different rules apply to the content of an article and a press release.

The main difference is that a press release must be newsworthy. While it can be of a promotional nature, it is written according to professional writing standards and promotes a specific news worthy event, occurrence or timely fact.

Articles cannot be promotional in nature although they often refer to sources of further information or related services. The purpose of an article is to inform, instruct, teach, inspire or entertain.

News Articles archives press releases and articles separately so that either can be distinctly searched for (see the search box at the top left of page).
